OUR MUSICIANS
SOPHIE FISHWICK
I am a lifelong musician and have enjoyed a career as a drummer and percussionist which has allowed me to make music in many incredible places in the world.
After a life-changing apprenticeship with Opus Music CIC in 2017 which provided me with the skills and a ‘license to make magic’, I set up District Musicians CIC to practice those skills.
My current practice is rooted in connection and promotes healing and wellbeing through shared musical experiences. In 2021 I received an Arts Council ‘Developing Your Creative Practice' grant to explore the use of music for people at the end of life. The grant also enabled further development of my singing and guitar playing, which complements my use of percussion in my work and strengthens my solo music sessions at Hayward House Hospice at City Hospital, Nottingham
I also work as a composer, most recently being commissioned to create and record a score for ‘Parklife’, a site-specific outdoor audio drama piece created by Gob Squad in Copenhagen.
I currently play with Can Samba Nottingham, and I am the drummer and backing vocalist for the funk and soul band Sticky Morales.
NICK JONAH DAVIS
I am a guitarist best known for my instrumental solo guitar work, which has taken me to gigs and festivals worldwide. I also love working as a session musician for a range of clients. In the studio, I also work as a recording and mixing engineer as well as providing mastering services.
I a qualified music teacher, primarily teaching guitar, although I have also helped many hundreds of primary school children to learn the ukulele! I have a background in Community Music, running guitar and percussion workshops with a range of young people.
I spent 10 years in the NHS as a community-based and clinical Substance Misuse Worker, which has informed my interest in bringing the benefits of music-making into healthcare settings.
